Discover the wild romantic Harz
The region around the Hotel-restaurant „Grüne Tanne“ was mentioned for the first time in 1482 as “Mangelholz”, which is probably a spoken form of “Mandelholz”. In many regions of Germany and probably also in the Harz, spruce/pine trees were called “Mandel” or “Mantel” (which also means coat). A rich pine tree crop in this region could therefore have been the reason for the field name “Mandelholz”.
